Summary
This entry-level sales role is in their Houston branch, where the incumbent will work directly alongside and under the guidance of a senior Business Development Representative. The Junior Sales Representative learns the business by shadowing and assisting the senior rep with both existing accounts and new business development activities, including preparing quotes, following up on orders, coordinating with suppliers, and participating in customer and supplier conversations.
This entry sales role is expected to build account management and negotiation skills over time. At the outset, responsibility is centered on assisting the senior rep rather than
Independently originating new business—that independence is expected to grow as the person develops in the role.
Qualifications:
- Eager to learn and coachable; motivated to grow from an assisting role into fuller sales
responsibility
- Detail-oriented and organized; able to track multiple quotes, orders, and customer requests at once
- Comfortable being closely mentored early on, working within a senior reps' accounts and priorities rather than driving fully independent initiatives from day one
- Communicates clearly and professionally with domestikc & international customers and suppliers
- Proactive; asks for help or clarification when needed and keeps tasks moving at a steady pace
Other Requirements
- Can effectively communicate with other companies via email and phone in English
- Basic computer skills: can research how to perform various tasks if needed
- Can use logical thinking and basic math to solve problems
- Comfortable in international business environments
- Detail oriented
- Available for occasional travel, primarily domestic and to Mexico, alongside the senior sales representative
- Able to research and work through unfamiliar tasks using available resources, with guidance from senior staff
- Bachelor's degree (business or business-adjacent preferred)
Preferences
- Fluent in Spanish or Japanese
- Familiar with Windows and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, OneNote, etc.)
- Understanding of international weights and measures, rate of conversions, converting currency
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate and follow up on quotes for all products
- Process sales orders
- Create and provide quotations
- Monitor competitors' products and prices
- Assist with negotiating price with suppliers and presenting pricing to customers
- Work in a small team environment, communicating as required with all personnel
- Shadow and assist the senior Business Development Representative in new supplier and customer development activities
- Maintain good business relationships with existing suppliers and customers
- Manage customer-specific inventories as needed
- Travel to customers and suppliers as needed, primarily domestic and occasionally international, alongside the senior Business Development Representative
- Other duties as assigned by the manager
- Contribute to individual and company sales and profit goals
- Cover area: mainly Houston area and Mexico, occasionally Midwest and Canada
